It started off with "...But I just make clothes for humans." and I directed my fingers to the comment section, and I am glad it wasn't just me feeling some type of way about it all.
One comment read "The fashion is not fashioning and he is not delivering anything new, innovative or directional so STOP hyping what is clearly a disastrous effort to make him a relevant designer, he is NOT!" which collected 11 hearts and one of those hearts were mine. Another comment that stood out for me was "real designers tell stories and execute their ideas" and you do wonder, who actually put skateboard P in charge?

Now as a massive fan of his music and production, I was excited to see what he would come up with as a new 'CD' for Louis Vuitton. He is one of the most influential people in the world of music, bringing us rebellious legends like The Neptunes, Kelis and The Clipse, merging outlandish skater-boy acid rock and smooth R'n'B & hip-hop rhythms, creating a whole different outlook and genre of hip-hop. Not only that, he is hands down one of the coolest people in the industry to make it easier for us creative weirdos to come out of the closet. I really had high hopes for the upcoming collections but unfortunately, I was kinda disappointed...
Now as I am a fan of both worlds, I had to be an honest critic... And as an Aries, I have all the capability in the world to do that. Fortunately for me, I was watching the show with my mum (who is also an Aries and a long-term fan of the brand) and she didn't have much positive things to say either!
It's not the matter of that the 2 worlds can't meet, I don't think that's true, but my opinion is as an artist, majority of them are styled by a stylist... They obviously have some input but their style is mainly executed by a second party, the influence of these people make it what it is and the person wearing it makes it a trend (if it catches on). We have watched Kanye, one of my favourite rappers of all time (before 808's & heartbreaks) make a mockery of fashion to what he believed was art... Hey, it's someone's cup of tea, just not everyone's - but there was no real story behind it. It was just I like, this will make people talk and this is how I want it to go - No creative thought put into it whatsoever.
In this new collection was the identity of one of many Pharrell phases. Just your bog-standard Texan cowboy with some random elements of hip-hop and streetwear thrown in to paprika things up. Even the backdrop was 'mid' and I mean, was there any research or did everyone on the board just watch a John Wayne film and agree this was the vibe? I would prefer if the fashion world stop introducing artists to have these positions and stick to one-off collabs, whilst the ones that studied and worked hard for this get the job.
Because you know, you can't have eternal youth, a plethora of hits and take over one of the biggest fashion houses on the planet?
That would just be selfish!
